Don't get Spooked by Elixirs!
I love the look on people's face when I mention I make my own elixirs. First, they aren't quite sure what it is, then they begin to visual me as some kind of witch doctor mixing all sorts of potions together. 😂🧪📖
Seriously though, elixirs are drinks that promote healing by using simple ingredients right from your kitchen. Want to know how to make one? Let’s dive in!
It’s important tune in to your body’s needs before determining what to put into your elixir. For instance, to aid any stomach discomfort, ginger may be on the top of your list to add in. You can also make elixirs to alleviate any peri/postmenopausal symptoms or nourish your body during the different phase of your menstrual or moon cycles. Beet root powder is great for your menstrual or new moon phases, while dandelion or chicory root can aid in constipation and support liver
health.
1. Pick Your Herb or Spice: Turmeric has great anti-inflammatory properties, Maca supports menopause health, ginger helps with digestive health and Ceylon cinnamon is packed with antioxidants that regulates blood sugar levels.
2. Select Your Base: The base liquid shouldn’t be overpowering with flavor. Adding hot water, Almond milk, Coconut Milk, Oat Milk, or your favorite tea are good neutral selections to choose from.
3. Healthy Fats: Fats are good for you and your body needs them. However, when I say fats, I mean healthy fats. Fats are necessary for hormone function; they keep us satiated and they add a wonderful flavorful creaminess to your elixir. Choose from Coconut butter, coconut oil, ghee, cacao butter, hemp seeds and nut butters.
4. Add the Protein: Protein improves immune, gut health, energy and builds muscle. Choose from collagen, pea protein powder, hemp seeds, spirulina.
5. Sweetness: Now for the finale… adding a little sweetness to your elixir will make it extra special! It’s ok to add in the sweetness as long it’s a natural sweetener and in moderation. Raw honey, dates, monk fruit, and maple syrup are great options to add to your elixir and get all the nutrients to support your body.
Add all ingredients in a high-speed blender and drink your magic potion…I mean elixir for good health and nourishment. Below is one of my favorites that taste like coffee and much healthier!
